Where subscript numbers belong
A lowered digit usually counts, labels, or indexes something. The surrounding letters stay on the baseline because they are still the main expression.
Chemical formulas
H₂O, CO₂, and C₆H₁₂O₆ use subscript numbers to show how many atoms are present. Type the ordinary formula in the converter instead of lowering every character.
Math indexes
x₁, x₂, x₃ label different items in a sequence. For precise input, type x_1; the underscore tells the converter exactly which part belongs below.
Do not swap floors. H₂O uses a subscript 2 because it counts atoms. x² uses a superscript 2 because it means “x squared.” If the position changes, the meaning changes too.
